Organizations in Texarkana, Texas will soon have the opportunity to apply for federal funding aimed at supporting neighborhood improvements and community programs.
City officials announced that applications for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program will open March 16, 2026, with submissions accepted through 5 p.m. on April 20, 2026.
The federally funded program provides money to cities to help strengthen neighborhoods and support projects that benefit local residents. Funding can be used for a variety of efforts, including improvements to public facilities, housing repairs, economic development projects, and community programs that assist residents—particularly those in lower-income areas.
According to city officials, several local organizations have received assistance through the program in the past, including Mission Texarkana, Randy Sams Outreach Shelter, Haven Homes, and The Scholars.
Program gives local groups a chance to secure funding
City CDBG Administrator Megan Price said the program gives local groups a chance to secure funding that can help expand or improve services.
“The Community Development Block Grant is a great opportunity for our local organizations to receive much needed funds for the work they are doing,” Price said in the city’s announcement. She noted that the program helps communities identify priorities and invest in projects designed to improve quality of life for residents.
Funding from the program has previously supported projects across the city, including facility upgrades at Randy Sams Outreach Shelter, new playground equipment at Kidtopia in downtown Texarkana, and new bleachers at the Southwest Center. The New Town Neighborhood Association has also used grant funding to develop a walking trail for residents.

To qualify, applicants must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or a government agency located within the Texarkana city limits. Projects must primarily benefit low-to-moderate income residents or be located in areas serving those communities.
Funding will cover the grant period from October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027, with funds distributed on a reimbursement basis.
Organizations interested in applying can find applications through the city’s website or request them by email or in person.
