Sherman Teen Killed Crash

GRAYSON COUNTY, Texas — An 18-year-old Sherman, Tx.,  woman was killed Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 11 in Grayson County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS said troopers responded to the crash at approximately 3:44 p.m. June 3 near McGraw Lane.

According to a preliminary DPS investigation, a Chevrolet Cruze was traveling northbound on State Highway 11 behind a 2007 International truck. Investigators said the driver of the Chevrolet failed to control the vehicle’s speed and rear-ended the truck, DPS said.

Both vehicles came to rest in the northbound lane following the collision, DPS said.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified by DPS as Makynna Eden Tumlinson, 18, of Sherman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the International truck, Hector Ivan Mejia Garcia, 37, of Allen, was transported to a local hospital with suspected minor injuries, according to DPS.

TOM BEAN, Texas — Tom Bean ISD has canceled all school activities for Thursday following Makynna Eden Tumlinson’s death, she was a student there.

“Due to a tragic loss of a student Wednesday afternoon, we have canceled all school activities for Thursday,” the district said in a statement.

School officials said counselors, administrators and local pastors will be available at Tom Bean High School to provide support for students and staff affected by the loss.

“We will have counselors, admin, and local pastors at the high school campus to provide support to any students who need it,” the district said.

Sherman Teen Killed Crash

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the student was killed in a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 11 near McGraw Lane, north of Luella, at approximately 3:45 p.m. Wednesday.

DPS said a preliminary investigation found that Tumlinson’s Chevrolet Cruze was traveling northbound when it struck the rear of a truck traveling ahead of her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by DPS.

The loss has prompted an outpouring of support from students, families and community members across the Texoma area.
