SANGER, Texas — The Sanger Lady Indians Softball team punched their ticket to a third straight regional final. They did it Friday after defeating Lindale 15-11 in the deciding game of a playoff series at Farmersville High School.
The Lady Indians improved to 21-11-3 on the season after overcoming an early deficit with a late offensive surge. Sanger trailed 9-8 after four innings.That’s when the Lady Indians scored two runs in the fifth inning. They added five more in the sixth to secure the win.
Friday’s win was an encore to comeback on Thursday
The victory capped another comeback effort in the series for Sanger. After suffering a 12-1 loss in the opening game Wednesday, the Lady Indians responded by rallying late for a 6-3 victory Thursday to force a deciding Game 3.
Sanger finished the final game with an astonishing 17 hits.
Paige Child, who is committed to Salt Lake Community College, led the way by going 4-for-5 with two doubles, four RBIs and a run scored. Zoe Bassham added a 3-for-5 performance with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored.
Sophia Troegle went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Abby Chapmond finished 2-for-5 with a solo home run and scored twice. Oklahoma Christian signee Lily Wilson added two hits, including a double, along with a walk and three runs scored.
Chapmond also helped close out the game in the circle, pitching the final 3 1/3 innings. She allowed two hits, one walk and two earned runs.
Sanger will next face Prosper Richland, which enters the regional final with a 31-6 record. Game details have not yet been announced.
