ARLINGTON, Texas — Nathan Eovaldi delivered seven strong innings and the Texas Rangers scored five runs over the first two frames Saturday night to defeat the Seattle Mariners 7-1 at Globe Life Field.
According to postgame notes from the Rangers, Texas improved to 53-51 and extended its lead in the American League West to a season-high two games over Houston. Seattle fell to 51-54 and 2½ games behind Texas.
The Rangers said Eovaldi allowed one run on three hits over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one. He threw 61 of his 91 pitches for strikes and retired the final seven batters he faced.
The victory improved Eovaldi to 10-8 with a 4.05 ERA. According to the Rangers, he has reached 10 wins in each of his four seasons with Texas, becoming the first Rangers pitcher to record four consecutive 10-win seasons since Rick Helling from 1998 through 2001.
Texas jumped on Seattle starter Bryan Woo early, scoring three runs in the first inning and two more in the second.
Wyatt Langord had a huge game

The Rangers said the victory was their second straight and improved them to 6-2 against Seattle this season, including 5-0 at Globe Life Field. Texas needs one victory in its final five games against the Mariners to clinch the season series.
