GRAYSON COUNTY, Texas — The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office says an off-duty telecommunications officer played a key role in helping deputies locate a wanted juvenile this week.

According to the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Telecommunications Officer Melissa York had already finished her shift when she noticed a person near Highway 75 and FM 691 who matched details from a law-enforcement bulletin received earlier in the day. The bulletin described a juvenile male wanted out of Oklahoma, including clothing and identifying features.

Officials said York contacted dispatch after recognizing similarities between the subject and the description provided. Deputies, including Deputy Turner and Corporal Hoppe, responded to the area and located the juvenile, who was taken into custody without incident.

The Sheriff’s Office said the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office was notified before the juvenile was transported to a detention facility. Authorities added that cooperation with Oklahoma and federal law-enforcement partners is continuing as the investigation moves forward.

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that public safety efforts involve more than deputies alone, noting that telecommunications officers and support staff also play an important role in protecting the community.
