HOUSTON — The Houston Astros are American League West champions after the Texas Rangers’ postseason hopes ended on the final day of the regular season.
Texas lost 6-4 to the Minnesota Twins on Sunday in Game 162, eliminating the Rangers from playoff contention and allowing Houston to secure the division title.
Houston owned the tie breaker
The Rangers entered Sunday needing to beat Minnesota and have Houston lose to the Athletics. Finishing tied with the Astros would not have been enough because Houston held the season-series tiebreaker.
The division championship gives Houston the No. 3 seed in the American League postseason. The Astros will open the Wild Card Series at home Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox.
For Texas, the loss brings a dramatic AL West race — and the 2026 season — to an end.
