SHERMAN, Tx.-The Waylond Baptist Pioneers defeated the Austin College Kangaroos in the women’s soccer opener for the Roos Friday night in Sherman.
The game was played in front of a crowd of over 280 fans at Dr. Jack R. Pierce Memorial Complex on the campus of Austin College.
Waylond Baptist (2-0) took a 1-0 lead in the fist half when junior midfielder Camilia Zavala scored a goal. The Pioneers took their 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Pioneers increased their lead in the second half
The Pioneers increased their lead to 2-0 in the second half when sophomore Ashley Perez scored a goal.
The Kangaroos (0-1) played good defense but they were unable to score and the Pioneers held on for the win.
The Roos woman’s soccer team will be in action again tonight (Saturday) when they host the Lyon College Scots. Kickoff will be at 6 p.m.
