Austin College Board of Trustees has selected Rebecca Cantor, Ph.D. as the College’s 17th President, effective July 1, 2026, Austin College announced earlier this week.
“We are excited to share (this) , ” the college said on Facebook.
Dr. Cantor currently serves as Provost and Chief Academic Officer at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, where she oversees academics and key student-facing area, Austin College said.
“A dedicated liberal arts educator and experienced leader, she brings a strong record in strategic planning, fundraising, and student success, including major campus projects and improved retention,” the Austin College Facebook post said.
Dr. Cantor is a liberal arts education champion
Austin College said that Dr. Cantor is a tenured Professor of English who has spent her career championing liberal arts education as preparation for lives of purpose and adaptability. She holds a Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University and is also an accomplished poet and former NCAA Division I volleyball athlete, Austin College said.

“We look forward to welcoming Dr. Cantor and her family to the Austin College community and to the leadership she will bring in the years ahead,” Austin College said on the social media.
