Sherman Police: Man Arrested After Alleged Apartment Burglary, Officer Assault

SHERMAN, Texas — The Sherman Police Department said officers arrested a 32-year-old man early May 9 following an alleged burglary at an apartment on West Taylor Street that led to multiple charges, including assault on a public servant.

According to Sherman police, officers responded around 2 a.m. to the 1300 block of West Taylor Street in reference to an assault call.

Sherman police said officers arrived and found citizens had detained Ashraf Abukhalaf after he allegedly forced entry into an apartment where he did not live. Police said Abukhalaf was arrested on a charge of burglary of a habitation.

Police said one detainee allegedly resisted arrest

During the investigation, Sherman police said Abukhalaf resisted arrest and allegedly assaulted one of the arresting officers while also threatening to kill the officer.

According to Sherman police, Abukhalaf was transported to the Grayson County Jail and booked on charges of burglary of a habitation, evading arrest or detention, resisting arrest, search or transport, assault on a public servant, and obstruction or retaliation.

Sherman police said Abukhalaf was being held on a total bond of $105,000.

Police said no citizens or officers involved in the incident suffered major or life-threatening injuries, and the situation was quickly contained.
