TEXARKANA, Texas — A 37-year-old woman was arrested Monday morning after an alleged shoplifting incident turned violent at a business on New Boston Road, according to the Texarkana Police Department.
Police said Michaelia Mack is accused of attempting to leave the store with a wig valued at approximately $110 concealed under her clothing. Employees reportedly confronted Mack near the front entrance, at which point the situation escalated.
Police say suspect struck an employee
Authorities allege Mack struck one of the employees in the face before fleeing toward the back of the store. During the incident, she dropped the merchandise while attempting to escape.
Officers said Mack did not get far. Within minutes, Officer Cutter Webb located her a few blocks away behind a nearby residence. Police also recovered a gray sweatshirt and another wig believed to have been discarded during the attempted escape.
Mack was taken into custody and booked into the Bi-State Jail on a charge of robbery.
Police noted that incidents involving theft can lead to more serious charges when violence is involved.
The investigation remains ongoing.
