HENDERSON COUNTY, Texas — A 20-year-old Athens man was killed early Thursday in a single-vehicle crash in Henderson County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Troopers with the Texas Highway Patrol responded to the crash around 2:06 a.m. on FM 317, west of FM 1803.
Preliminary findings indicate a Chevrolet pickup was traveling westbound on FM 317 when it approached a left-hand curve at an unsafe speed. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, authorities said.
Driver was only 20 years old
The driver, identified as Daniel Rivero, 20, of Athens, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger, Jayden Miranda, 19, of Murchison, was transported to UT Health Athens with injuries. His condition has not been released.
The crash remains under investigation, and no additional details were immediately available.
